OpenMSU
Materials in any medium that reside in the public domain or have been released under an open license that permits no-cost access, use, adaptation, and redistribution by others.
Open license textbooks such as OpenStax, Repositories or platforms such as OER Commons and Khan Academy are a great place to start. You can also connect with your MSU Library OER expert! You can schedule an appointment to discuss open content options, and the FCTL team can help guide you on how to best incorporate it into your course and Brightspace.
Is the content accessible & high quality?
Some platforms or creators prioritize accessibility more than others. MSU accessibility office and FCTL can help determine this. Accessibility Toolkit 2nd ed. There are also rubrics available and evaluation tools available to help assess the content and if it aligns with the course objectives.
Is print an option?
This can vary by the creative commons license but if it is open, we can make print an option with our campus print shop.
Why does the bookstore need to know?
This information is posted on the booklist to aid students in making informed decisions and support the campus OER community.
There are also several opportunities such as Open Ed Week in March, webinars and events throughout the year that you can participate in to learn more about open sources.
